Last night, Paint & Plastic: A mini documentary premiered on Youtube and features South African artists painting miniatures for tabletop games. It’s produced by TinToy Productions.
My wife and I recently got into Dungeons and Dragons, and we have our first miniatures ready for a painting session with the rest of our table soon. Seeing the level of work in this, and what painting means for these artists, was pretty inspiring.
It’s still quite a niche form of art here in SA, so I’m really glad to see this documentary out there and these artists getting the spotlight.
The artists featured include:
- Kris van Zyl @tiny_silhouettes
- Richard Cordeiro @wildstorm_studio
- Wynand van Wyk @artificerminiature
- JP Craucamp @nocturnal.studios.sa
- Clarence Rall
- Mieke Hough @monkeymeeks
More painting miniatures?

And if you are keen to try your hand at painting your own miniatures, then check out G&S Painters Guild series that takes you through the process. Here is episode one…

That’s all for now!
