Welcome to a new regular segment here on Draw Your Weapon. After the challenging year that 2020 was, I want to give artists a little signal boost. The aim here is to showcase quality art prints by different artists who have their work up for sale. This is the First Friday Five. Five art prints on the first Friday of each month.
We’re going with a sort of Strange New World theme in this one. I’m sure we all wished at some point in 2020 that we could be somewhere else, another planet ideally. So in spirit of that, here are five art prints to transport you…
Vegetal Chasm – Sylvain Sarrailh
This piece, Vegetal Chasm, is from the video game, Forest of Liars. Sylvain is the creator and artist director for the project. There are more environments from it available on their print store. And if you are looking for high res reference photos of the Alpine mountains for your next environment piece, you might want to check this pack out.
Sylvain is a concept artist that has done work with clients like Ubi Soft, Electronic Arts, Sony Picture Entertainment and more. See more of Sylvain’s work by following on Instagram: @sylvailsarrailh.
Sacred Oak – Gavin O’Donnell
Ah, this is magic. This tree would be X on a treasure map for sure. Imagine climbing deep through some mountain caves and stumbling across the Sacred Oak. Gavin is a concept artist working in video games and animation. He also has a stylize brush pack for Photoshop and Procreate available here.
You can follow more of Gavin’s work by following him on Instagram: @gavinodonnelart.
Cyberpunk Street – Grace Zhu
For some there is stillness in the chaos of a busy street. I think cyberpunk cityscapes like Grace Zhu’s Cyberpunk Street really capture this. The cool violet and blue lights are probably pretty key to that mood as well. Speaking of cool blues, check out Grace’s Iceland Winter photo reference pack here.

Siesta – Alejandro Burdisio
As a kid that had his head in the clouds, playing with cars and trains, work like Alejandro’s Siesta has a certain nostalgic quality for me. Surely I’m not the only one. See more of his exceptional work on Artstation here.

Medieval Marketplace – Samantha Kung
If you enjoy imagining yourself in a colorful video-game environment, then take a look at this Medieval Marketplace by Samantha Kung. Check out the great variety of environment and prop design that she’s done on her portfolio site as well. I’ve actually been thinking about prop design a bit recently. I’ve never done something like it, but seeing this work inspires me to give it a try.
Samantha is a concept artist and illustrator from China, working in the film and games industries. She featured in issue 176 of ImagineFX and you can see more of her work by following on Instagram: @kio.art
Wrapping up…
Going in to 2021, I think for most we’re a little unsure of what to expect on the road ahead. There could be some real gem moments and opportunities to shape our world toward something beautiful. Hopefully pieces like this can be a bit of a reminder of that, or at least offer a moment of calm in the madness.
Next month we’ll have another First Friday Five with more art prints for sale on a different theme.
Looking to have more art in your home? Then why not consider some movie art books for your coffee table.
