The Art of Ghost of Tsushima [Video Game Art]

Mitch Mohrhauser – Senior Concept Artist – art for Ghost of Tsushima

When the Ghost of Tsushima art started dropping online, I had a hard time getting my jaw off the floor.

Scrolling through, I felt two things:

Firstly, to sell most of my possessions, save for my bed and moka pot, buy a PS4 (or PS5 now rather), a huge screen and this game, and dive deep into this world set in 13th century Japan, surfacing only in the event of an apocalypse, because I’d kinda like to witness that.

Secondly, and impossible to indulge simultaneously with the first feeling, is the urge to draw. Concept art for video games is what inspired me to put pencil to paper as I entered my teen years, in particular that of the Blizzard concept artists working on Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3, games I still occasionally play to tap back into that. I think the Ghost of Tsushima art team have really knocked this one out of the park, and I’m feeling crazy inspired looking at all these images.

This is just the briefest glimpse at some of the incredible art done for game.

There are more artists that worked on the game and a whole lot more art to see. I’m stoked to see there is an art book for the game by Sucker Punch Productions, published by Dark Horse Comics.
